January 24

25th January 2024

The activities team have provided had some very enjoyable ‘themed’ activities recently and there has been a good turnout. The kitchen staff cooked a delicious Burns themed lunch of cullen skink or scotch broth followed by raspberry cranachan with Scottish shortbread.

Our weekly coffee morning saw residents enjoy tasty homemade shortbread from our baking afternoon. On the 25th we had a themed quiz to celebrate Burns Night. The Scottish theme ran through the whole week, with decorations around the nursing home, Scottish poems in Poetry Club and paper kilts made in our Craft afternoon. Some very attractive snowmen pictures were made in Art afternoon, but thankfully the snow hasn’t come yet.

Other activities included a Sunday Group Chat, monthly Yoga, animal bingo and the film Young at Heart.

January 2024

Well, we are in to January now. We’ve had quizzes and games (Blockbusters, Beetle Drive, Bingo and Active Games). Art afternoon saw some nice flowers painted. Coffee morning was quite lively with music, singalong and lots of percussion insruments. On Film afternoon we saw the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the world’s worst opera singer. Our ears survived! This week Maggie-Mae the PAT dog came. She is very popular with the residents.

Last but not least there was the opportunity to share praise and grumbles at the Residents’ Meeting.

Happy New Year

4th January 2024

So, we have welcomed in the New Year! We do hope it is a happy one for you all. Best wishes from all of us at Broomgrove.

In our Craft Afternoon we made some really attractive sparkly 2024 calendars. Our residents were pleased to have Sharon the hairdresser back. We have had brain games and active games, dominoes and cross stitch. St Marks came for the monthly service and we have also had a coffee morning. Last, but not least we had a good turnout for Liz’s Music Club where we enjoyed music from some jazz divas.

Christmas 2023

Activity Update 13

21st December 2023

Unfortunately some of our activities had to be cancelled this week due to Covid, but it gave us opportunity to do a lot of Individual Work. Thankfully our busy programme of entertainment from visitors went ahead and we had five very enjoyable and successful visits.

The Fountain of Life Christian Centre hosted a wonderful Christmas service.

Beth Guiver ‘The Storyteller’ entertained us, as did a singing quartet with Kit’s daughter and friends.

The pantomime this year was Alice in Wonderland and they gave us a slick performance.

Last but not least Broomhill Bells, a local handbell ringing group, gave an evening performance, which went down very well.

Other highlights have been the monthly Poetry Club, Cross Stitch and the making of wreaths in Christmas Crafts.

May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Christmas.

Best wishes from the staff and residents at Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home.

15th December

We can really tell that Christmas is coming. Broomgrove has been decorated and looks really festive. In the two Christmas craft sessions we have prepared crackers for the children and poinsettias for the residents.

We had a really enjoyable Christmas party with delicious food, festive music and good company with family and friends visiting. We also played some party games.

A special thank you to our amazing kitchen staff who worked very hard to provide a fantastic hot and cold buffet.

My mother, who died recently, lived at Broomgrove for the final three and a half years of her life. She had moved house only once before, over 90 years previously, but she quickly felt at home in Broomgrove. Because Broomgrove offers nursing care, my mother was glad to know that she would be unlikely to need a further move. It was also reassuring to know that Broomgrove is an independent, well established, local charitable Trust.
Broomgrove provides exceptionally good care and an amazing programme of activities and social events. My mother especially enjoyed Broomgrove’s lovely sheltered garden – one of the many features of Broomgrove that make it ‘home’ rather than ‘A Home’. For residents and their family and friends, Broomgrove removes the worry of day to day care and makes spending time with loved ones a real pleasure. We all felt – and will always feel - part of Broomgrove’s extended ‘family’ and we are so grateful to all the staff, management and trustees.

Frances S (Daughter of Resident) Testimonial

My aunt has been a resident at Broomgrove for nearly ten years and whilst she has many challenges physically, her intellect is as sharp as ever. She's always felt totally at home at Broomgrove. I visit her regularly and she's always full of praise for the care and professionalism of the staff. The home always has a relaxed and happy vibe and the staff always go the extra mile to ensure she's as comfortable as possible.
