13th October 2023

13th October 23

We do like our music in Activities; both live and recorded. Also music with a twist. In our last Music Morning we had a quiz on TV themes and on Monday Rosalind from St Marks entertained us with Musical Bingo. This week we had a good turnout at Poetry Club where we focussed on popular short pieces of poetry. In preparation for Halloween and the Children’s Visit, Craft Afternoon saw us making creepy crawly big black spiders. It nearly put some people off joining the activity but in the end they were persuaded and a good time was had by all. The children from a local childminding group visited again this month and everybody was entertained as usual. Afterwards we enjoyed a singalong and some people got up and danced!

Broomgrove News – 6th October

Good afternoon everyone.

Activities have had another busy week. As well as all the usual activities the residents enjoyed a playing card bingo, and a visit from Clare and her pat dog.

See Photo below of residents with Maggie Mae.

The film watched this week was ‘The Incredible Journey’

Residents had their Covid vaccines on Wednesday and they will be having their Flu vaccine next week.

Our guest singer, James Collumbine visited Broomgrove on Friday afternoon.

HR are happy to announce five new staff have joined Broomgrove this week. Three care assistants, one member of staff in the kitchen and a qualified nurse.

Maintenance report a busy week due to a problem with the hot water and heating system in some parts of the building. All rooms now have hot water and most have heating.

A Note For Your Diary

Broomgrove Bonfire Party will be held on Friday 3rd November. Exact timings and more details to follow.

Road Works

Will all visitors to our nursing home please note that there are road works on Broomgrove Road all week 2nd-6th October.

There are restrictions with access from the top and the bottom of Broomgrove road which is causing traffic delays.

Please be assured that emergency vehicles can still get access as it is just the pavements that are being re surfaced.

Kind regards

Activity Update 3

29th September 2023

This week we’ve had another coffee morning, where we enjoyed hot cross buns and beverages in our best china cups. It’s so important to make relaxing time for everyone to chat and socialise.

In art afternoon some residents produced some beautiful watercolour paintings of Japanese anemones ( see photos)

Every week we have Individual work on Saturdays. This is a chance to catch up with nail care and have a chat or do an activity. It’s also a perfect time to relax and look at photo albums.

Monday afternoons are reminiscence, which is based on the Daily Sparkle Magazine.

The session takes us through the current week, each date highlights news of what happened in recent years. It can be a fun fact, a cultural or historical reference or something from the world of entertainment. There are also songs and quizzes, so everyone to join in.

There’s always the regular games and activities, too, with a choice for all. This week we had word searches in brain games, ‘proper’ bingo with the numbers machine and some ludo which got quite competitive.

Congratulations to two staff members

This week we have celebrated the 25th anniversary of two valued members of staff.

Judy Warburton presented them with our commemorative 25 years in service pin badges.

Liz has been a nurse at Broomgrove for 25 years and Denise has also been working at Broomgrove for 25 years most recently by serving refreshments to residents and visitors.

We thank them both for their service and commitment to Broomgrove.

My mother, who died recently, lived at Broomgrove for the final three and a half years of her life. She had moved house only once before, over 90 years previously, but she quickly felt at home in Broomgrove. Because Broomgrove offers nursing care, my mother was glad to know that she would be unlikely to need a further move. It was also reassuring to know that Broomgrove is an independent, well established, local charitable Trust.
Broomgrove provides exceptionally good care and an amazing programme of activities and social events. My mother especially enjoyed Broomgrove’s lovely sheltered garden – one of the many features of Broomgrove that make it ‘home’ rather than ‘A Home’. For residents and their family and friends, Broomgrove removes the worry of day to day care and makes spending time with loved ones a real pleasure. We all felt – and will always feel - part of Broomgrove’s extended ‘family’ and we are so grateful to all the staff, management and trustees.

Frances S (Daughter of Resident) Testimonial

My aunt has been a resident at Broomgrove for nearly ten years and whilst she has many challenges physically, her intellect is as sharp as ever. She's always felt totally at home at Broomgrove. I visit her regularly and she's always full of praise for the care and professionalism of the staff. The home always has a relaxed and happy vibe and the staff always go the extra mile to ensure she's as comfortable as possible.
