21st November 2023

17th November 2023

We’ve had another enjoyable week in Activities with lots to do and see.

We celebrated Armistice Day and a good number joined the Remembrance Day Service.

In preparation the residents made some lovely poppy wreaths to decorate the lounge with.

We enjoyed some poppy decorated buns made by Michele on Coffee Morning and had a themed quiz for Remembrance Weekend.

Joan and Joy played the piano on Puzzle Afternoon, which people enjoyed.

The Ukelele Lady entertained us on Tuesday and 19 people turned up for Roy’s Music Club.

We have also had the monthly Poetry Club and the visit from Maggie-Mae the PAT Dog.

Another busy week at Broomgrove

Another very active and busy week for our residents with our usual active games and our physiotherapist doing her rounds. We have also had a visit from Helena who does a yoga class for our residents which they thoroughly enjoy.

Also, Zoo Lab come to visit us showcased a varied range of insects and exotic animals such as tree frogs, snails, hissing cockroaches, python, and millipedes. This raised many interesting questions from some of the residents (See pictures).

We also enjoyed our fortnightly music club; this week it was Marcia’s choice. Later in the week we had some fun playing wildlife bingo, coloring morning and film afternoon on Saturday watching ‘The Greatest Showman’.

13th October 23

We do like our music in Activities; both live and recorded. Also music with a twist. In our last Music Morning we had a quiz on TV themes and on Monday Rosalind from St Marks entertained us with Musical Bingo. This week we had a good turnout at Poetry Club where we focussed on popular short pieces of poetry. In preparation for Halloween and the Children’s Visit, Craft Afternoon saw us making creepy crawly big black spiders. It nearly put some people off joining the activity but in the end they were persuaded and a good time was had by all. The children from a local childminding group visited again this month and everybody was entertained as usual. Afterwards we enjoyed a singalong and some people got up and danced!

My mother, who died recently, lived at Broomgrove for the final three and a half years of her life. She had moved house only once before, over 90 years previously, but she quickly felt at home in Broomgrove. Because Broomgrove offers nursing care, my mother was glad to know that she would be unlikely to need a further move. It was also reassuring to know that Broomgrove is an independent, well established, local charitable Trust.
Broomgrove provides exceptionally good care and an amazing programme of activities and social events. My mother especially enjoyed Broomgrove’s lovely sheltered garden – one of the many features of Broomgrove that make it ‘home’ rather than ‘A Home’. For residents and their family and friends, Broomgrove removes the worry of day to day care and makes spending time with loved ones a real pleasure. We all felt – and will always feel - part of Broomgrove’s extended ‘family’ and we are so grateful to all the staff, management and trustees.

Frances S (Daughter of Resident) Testimonial

My aunt has been a resident at Broomgrove for nearly ten years and whilst she has many challenges physically, her intellect is as sharp as ever. She's always felt totally at home at Broomgrove. I visit her regularly and she's always full of praise for the care and professionalism of the staff. The home always has a relaxed and happy vibe and the staff always go the extra mile to ensure she's as comfortable as possible.
